The new railway threatens Mikael’s life’s work – wants to raise the issue to the government

In the clip: See how the new railway runs across Mikael Svensson’s land.

Mikael Svensson has 800 animals on his farm outside Tenhult and delivers dairy products to 10,000 consumers. At an information meeting in early 2023, he realized that a new railway would be built right through his land.

New railway between Värnamo and Jönköping

  • The National Audit Office’s criticism of rising costs: “Other things are postponed”

  • This is the new railway between Jönköping and Värnamo

  • Reviewed the bet

Since then, together with other landowners, the business association in Tenhult and the company Kabe, he has reviewed the Swedish Transport Administration’s investigation in detail. And they are critical of the plans to build a new railway between Byarum and Tenhult as part of the new train section between Jönköping and Värnamo. They are also very critical of the investigations that the Swedish Transport Administration has carried out.

    – The alleged benefits of a new railway do not exist as we see it. Commuting in the county is worsened by removing the train line in Tabergsdalen. And when the combi terminal is built in Torsvik and with the new triangle tracks in Alvesta, there is no need for a new railway for freight traffic, says Mikael.

    Caravan manufacturers build abroad instead

The company Kabe in Tenhult is also critical of the project.

    – We are affected by the new route, which means that we cannot expand as a company physically. We have recently decided to put new production with 100 employees in England instead, says Mikael Blomqvist, CEO Kabe.

The goal of the group is to stop the decision on a new railway. Instead, they believe that the current route that runs from Värnamo up to Jönköping via Tabergsdalen should be upgraded.

    Support from LRF

    – We have always advocated a rearmament. We see the need to increase food production, among other things, for preparedness reasons. And to then encroach on forest land and agricultural land with a new railway that makes it worse for food producers, we think is wrong, says Christina Nyemad, member of the regional board LRF.
