Do not cooperate with SD’s European party family ECR. The offer comes from both the liberal and the social democratic party group in the EU ahead of the upcoming EU elections.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has not ruled out cooperation with the ECR, but referred to a debate on Monday that it depends on which parties are part of the group after the election. Right now, the ECR is dominated by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party and Poland’s former ruling Law and Justice party.

That is enough for a no from Valérie Hayer, one of three top candidates from the liberal EU group RE.

– A coalition deal with the ECR, which includes the Brothers of Italy and (French far-right politician) Éric Zemmour’s Reconquest. . . is completely excluded, says Hayer in an interview conducted for the European news agency cooperation ENR, which also includes TT.

The EU’s united social democrats are expected to come up with a similar declaration at a meeting in Berlin on Saturday.
