The International Court of Justice continues hearing Ukraines case against

Ukraine brought the case to the ICJ shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

The International Court of Justice under the UN, ICJ, said on Friday that it can make a decision on most of the issues of the case brought by Ukraine against Russia.

According to Ukraine, Russia has violated international agreements on genocide when it has justified its attack on Ukraine with allegations of genocide.
Russia has claimed that Ukraine has persecuted pro-Russian residents of eastern Ukraine. The International Court of Justice states that it has grounds to continue processing the case.

Ukraine has denied Russia’s claim of persecution of Eastern Ukrainians.

Ukraine brought the case to the ICJ shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Ukraine said in its lawsuit that Russia’s use of force during the attack violated the UN Genocide Convention. In addition, Ukraine said that Russia’s recognition of two provinces of eastern Ukraine was an act against the Genocide Convention.

The ICJ ruled on Friday that it does not have the competence to make a decision on these two parts of the claim.
