The great dissatisfaction of the rivals after Frida Karlsson’s success in the World Cup – hard words: “It’s stupid”

Frida Karlsson has had a very good start to the season.
But now the rivals are showing great dissatisfaction towards the start of the season.
– It’s a stupid change, says Finnish star skater Krista Pärmäkoski to SportExpressen.

Sweden has had a real dream start to the ski season with triple double victories during the premiere weekend in Ruka. Emma Ribom and Johanna Hagström came first and second in the sprint while Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson took their first and second place last weekend.

Frida’s successful start

For Karlsson, the introduction has resulted in her topping the overall World Cup together with the Norwegian Tiril Udnes Weng. But here there is also great dissatisfaction after the start of the season considering that the Norwegian only has two third places as the best position and is still at the top together with Karlsson.

That’s because of the World Cup’s brand new points system for this season, where only 30 riders previously received points, compared to 50 riders now. In addition, the distribution of points at the top is also different, where previously it was 100-80-60 points for the podium places, but now it is 100-95-90 points instead.

“It’s crazy”

Therefore, Udnes Weng with positions 3, 9 and 3 can have as many points as Karlsson who started with 10, 2 and 1.
– I don’t know if I like it, but right now it suits me well, says Tiril Udnes Weng about the new points system to SportExpressen.

But the dissatisfaction is significantly greater among the other competitors. Both Emma Ribomwho won the sprint premiere, and the Finnish star skater Krista Pärmäkoski are strongly critical of the distribution of points at the World Cup.
– I think it’s crazy. And above all that 50 gets points. There are 49 of us who start and that everyone who starts gets points, it feels a bit crunch, says the Swede to the evening newspaper.
– Last year I was fifth here, then I got 50 points. Now if I’m in 16th place, I get 50. It’s a stupid change, says the Finn.

But even if Frida Karlsson and Tiril Udnes Weng have the same number of points, it is still the Swede who formally leads and gets to wear the yellow leader’s shirt. Since, unlike the Norwegian, she has actually won a World Cup race so far.
