the game sells twice as well as The Callisto Protocol

January 2023 was a busy month for video game releases, with big titles such as Forspoken, One Piece Odyssey, Fire Emblem Engage, GoldenEye 007, Hi-Fi Rush and of course Dead Space Remake. The latter was particularly awaited by fans of cold sweats and scary atmosphere, since it is the restoration of an iconic game from the end of the 2000s. If the Electronic Arts title was wonderfully welcomed by the press and even the players who bought the game, the sales are on the other hand less good than expected. According to our colleagues at Gamesindustry.bizDead Space Remake is well ranked number 1 in sales in Britain at the moment, but sales are twice as low as The Callisto Protocol released just over a month ago.

Several elements can intervene in this more timid start than expected: the average selling price of Dead Space Remake is around £63, while that of The Callisto Protocol was £47. Then, The Callisto Protocol came out just before the holiday season, which no doubt helped Krafton’s title take advantage of Christmas to boost its sales. It should also not be forgotten that Dead Space Remake is only available on 3 media (PC, Xbox Series and PS5), while The Callisto Protocol was also released on old gen consoles. We also do not forget to mention the argument that it is yet another remake and not an original game, which also caused some consumers not to rush the game in the first days of sales. In any case, we will have to wait a few more weeks to find out if sales are accelerating or decreasing further, just as it will be interesting to have sales figures from other countries. Note that 80% of physical sales of Dead Space were made on PS5, the remaining 20% being on Xbox Series.
