The Finns had a quiet day when they competed in the slalom competition at the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Levi. Out of five Finns, only made it to the finish line Charlotte Henriksson. He was also the third last finisher, 60th.

– You can still feel the acids in your legs. The beginning got off to a good start. The slope was quite broken. It started to go badly right from the start. In the end, I just thought that I want nothing more than to finish, Henriksson said.

Having returned to the World Cup after a year and a half Rosa Pohjolainen the race ended after only 15 seconds.

– I think that the stick on top of the grenslas. That’s why I stopped counting, Pohjolainen stated about the situation.

Grenslaus means that the inner ski goes to the wrong side of the slalom stick and that would result in disqualification.

In addition to Pohjolainen, five of the world cup points have been reached before Nella Korpio.

– It felt like I was spreading everywhere like Jokinen’s snacks. Didn’t really leave at any point, Korpio stated.

The track of the opening lap was reasonably straight.

– Not my favorite. All kinds of tracks are offered. It is the salt of the species. It would be good to know how to calculate something like this. You had to have a tempo and stay with it. You had to be ready for all kinds of situations, Korpio stated.

Norway thinks it’s easy, Finland says it’s difficult

Sports expert Kalle Palander became aware of the pain of Finnish athletes and recalled the early stages of his own successful career in the World Cup.

– I was in Madonna di Campiglio and I was thinking the whole bill how to get out. I was so slow I can’t even count out. Everyone goes through something like this in their career, Palander recalled.

On the other hand, Palander would have expected a little better from the Finns.

– I would expect a bit of stretching. However, this is a home game, Palander stated.

Head coach of the Norwegian women’s national team Janne Haarala found the course easy.

– Yes, it still made the cut. There were surprisingly many outings, Haarala reflected.

In the end, the course was not easy for the Finns.

– We went pretty hard there. When he made a small mistake, he immediately flew out. Often the course is more difficult and tighter. It is easier to calculate when there is less momentum. Apparently, many had not trained on such a fast track. You should know how to pull everything, Palander said.

Finland’s head coach Mikael Kurki admitted that the Finns had a bad day.

– Thinking about it the other way around, Rosa has had a lot of momentum. I believe that this day triggered competition tension after a long break, Kurki stated and believed that we will see a better result on Sunday.

– We have to fight hard. We have to put everything into play. You have to be really loud and come down properly. Our calculators have been training hard and they need to be able to show it in the competitions.

Palander from Vlhova: “Humiliation towards others”

In the second round, the track was tighter. Slovakia won the competition Petra Vlhova. He took his sixth victory in Levi by a wide margin. Germany came second Lena Dürr trailed by 1.41 seconds.

Palander considered the margin of victory incredible in the slalom competition.

– That Vlhova was a humiliation towards others. He showed others that go train and this Levi is my country, Palander said.

Vlhova was really happy because she didn’t know how to expect an overwhelming victory.

– Before the race, I was a little nervous about where we were going. After all, I succeeded. This is unbelievable. I thank my team. They are always behind me and give their all, Vlhova expressed in the winner’s interview.

Since 201, only Vlhova or an American has won the slalom in Levi Mikaela Shiffrin. The latter was left fourth on Saturday. Austria came between Dürr and Shiffrin Katharina Liensberger.

Shiffin said earlier this week on social media that he had been badly injured in training. He thanked his new friends from different clinics all over Finland. After the opening round, Shiffrin said in an interview with that he had received a blow to his left knee, but managed to get through it.

– It hasn’t slowed me down on the slopes. Two days ago I had a full weight training day and it felt good. The knee is not perfect, but the contusion does not limit me on skis. Everything is fine!

Another World Cup slalom will be contested in Levi on Sunday. Charlotte Henriksson had clear tunes for Sunday.

– I haven’t bought a Father’s Day present yet. First of all, I would like to better calculate the steep part and better placement. It could be a Father’s Day gift for dad, Henriksson said.
