The European Union will train Ukrainian soldiers in Poland

This is a new initiative by the EU to help Kyiv deal with Russian aggression. With these training sessions for Ukrainian soldiers, which should begin at the end of November, Warsaw is getting even more involved in supporting its neighbor.

With our correspondent in Warsaw, Martin Chabal

Poland will train, with the help of Germany, about 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers.

Since the European Union mentioned its wish to train soldiers within its borders, Poland immediately volunteered.

And since the start of the war, Warsaw has been struggling for its Ukrainian neighbor.

Because to this training is added a long list of actions to support kyiv. Just last week, the Polish government signed an agreement with the United States to open a permanent American military base. A first on the eastern flank of NATO.

But the implementation of this European training plan could reconcile Poland with Brussels on the military level. Since the beginning of the war, Warsaw seems to favor its great American ally rather than the European Union.

In particular on its purchases of military equipment to replace that left on the other side of the border. The Polish government has multiplied contracts with American and Korean firms rather than within the Union.
