The disenchantment of young journalists told in a sociological survey

Media sociologist Jean-Marie Charon publishes an investigation entitled “ Young journalists, the hour of doubt “.

Journalism is sometimes a dream. Some choose this exciting profession, agree to a huge investment to access it, but some of these young people become disillusioned and leave the profession after a few years.

In the book ” Young journalists, the hour of doubt », to be published by Entremises, the sociologist Jean-Marie Charonattached to the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, discusses the reasons for this disenchantment.

In this interview of around forty minutes, it is about precariousness, the relationship with bosses and the hierarchy, the expectations of a generation in terms of personal life, the difficulty of projecting oneself and finally the distrust of part of the public towards journalists, especially on social networks.
