The dirty Harry Potter is currently streaming on Amazon – Hogwarts fans find amazing parallels between fantasy adventure and Saltburn

The dirty Harry Potter is currently streaming on Amazon

Both those Harry Potterfilms as well as the new revealing thriller Saltburn are currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video *. But that is not the only thing that the works, which at first glance seem completely different, have in common. Fans of the famous Sorcerer’s Apprentice are finding more and more amazing referenceswhich elevate the new film by Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) into the light of a dark Harry Potter homage.

Harry Potter fans celebrate the magical references in Saltburn

In the film Saltburn on Amazon, rich Oxford student Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi) befriends outsider scholar Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan). He even goes so far as to take him to his family estate on vacation. But there the friendship between the two young men increasingly escalates in the circle of Felix’s wealthy family.

Saltburn takes place in the summer of 2007, around the time the last Harry Potter novel was published. Nevertheless, Harry Potter fans would probably never have thought of comparing the thriller with the fantasy adventure if Saltburn himself hadn’t initiated it. In one scene, about halfway through the film, references are made to Harry, Ron and Hermione in the dialogue and shortly afterwards we clearly see Felix Read the seventh volume of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:

As Bustle reported, the Saltburn-Harry Potter connection then took on a life of its own on social media like TikTok. One hidden reference in particular appealed to Potter hardcore fans: apparently both Felix and his sister Venetia (Alison Oliver) are wearing Tattoos with hidden Harry Potter meanings.

Some Harry Potter fans have three stars etched into their skin to serve as a reference to the top page illustrations of the British edition: three stars on the left and right of each page header. Felix and Venetia both have 6-star tattoos on the back of their hands, which could either allude to these six stars on the book pages or to the six Harry Potter books that had already been published at the time of Saltburn’s story. And that’s not all.

  • Hogwarts, Oxford & the Saltburn Estate: Both stories take place within time-honored British walls. Many Harry Potter scenes were even filmed at Oxford University, especially from part 4. A college fantasy come true for Felix as a Potterhead?
  • Class differences and clothing: While Oliver, who comes from a humble background, has to put on evening wear for dinner, Ron Weasley’s family’s lack of wealth is highlighted by his second-hand dress robes.
  • bathroom: Strange things are happening in the bathrooms (and bathtubs) of both Hogwarts and Saltburn…
  • The deer is Harry’s patronus. Is it a coincidence that Oliver also wears deer antlers at his costume party?
  • labyrinth: Mazes is in both Saltburn and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – and in both stories, terrible things happen to beautiful boys there…
  • Whether you want to associate Saltburn so closely with Harry Potter or not is of course up to each fan and viewer. Incidentally, Amazon Prime (unlike the Harry Potter FSK) recommends that you only watch Saltburn at the age of 16, as nudity and violence characterize the hotly debated film.
