The big MMORPG before WoW wants an entry fee of 1,383 euros for an event

Before WoW existed, Everquest dominated the theme park MMORPG landscape. Everquest was released in 1999 and, along with Ultima Online, is considered the forefather of MMORPGs. In June 2024, Everquest and Everquest 2 will host an event with an entry price that will leave people amazed.

What kind of games are these?

  • Everquest and its successor Everquest 2 are classic fantasy MMORPGs with a focus on PvE and group content.
  • Everquest is considered a clear inspiration from World of Warcraft: Many of the key developers on WoW were active Everquest players.
  • Even if the MMORPGs are a bit old today and people are waiting for an Everquest 3, they are still being played and developed further. In December 2023, “Larion’s Song” was the 31st expansion pack for Everquest.
  • 5 old MMORPGs that are still actively played

Flippyfest is designed to celebrate the Everquest community

What kind of event is this now? That’s the ironic thing: you don’t really know.

The developer of Everquest, the Daybreak studio, has announced an Everquest community event for June 2024 that can be attended live and digitally. The event is called “Flippyfest”.

    It’s similar to BlizzCon:

  • Anyone who buys a digital ticket for $50 to $250 can view the content and get mounts, pets, skins.
  • But there is also an “event for people who want to be there”. This will take place at an as yet undisclosed location in San Diego and will run on June 14th and 15th. To participate you pay 1,499 US dollars, or around 1,383 euros, almost twice as much as for the luxury edition of BlizzCon.
  • The developers say:

“While the specific panels and activities are still under wraps, you can expect this two-day event to be filled with engaging content tailored to the EverQuest® and EverQuest II communities. From deep dives into the game’s history and discussions to numerous opportunities to interact with the game’s teams, it’s something every EverQuest®/EverQuest II fan will love. You will also have the opportunity to collect signatures from the teams to receive your favorite souvenirs and loot items!”

What are the reactions to the price? The massivelyop site has summarized some very nice fan reactions. Such as:

  • “Damn, that’s more expensive than Taylor Swift”
  • “For $1,500 I better get free Everquest for the rest of my life.”
  • Another user simply concludes: “Oh, just fuck off.”
  • Well then.
