On February 15, 2022, theAssistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris announces the launch of a pilot study “Lung Cancer Screening by Low Dose CT Scan” (FALL).CASCADE study aims to validate the methods of reading scanners with a single radiologist, trained in screening, confronted with a double reading by experts. in order to demonstrate or not the benefit of a widespread screening for lung cancer in France. From the 8 March 2022women interested in this study can be worn volunteers for a chest scan. 2400 volunteers aged 50 to 74, smokers or ex-smokers are expected. This scanner will allow the detection of several pathologies linked or favored by tobacco : lung cancer but also coronary disease, emphysema or osteoporosis. This pilot study aims to answer methodological and organizational questions, a necessary prerequisite before setting up organized screening, which could benefit more widely the population at risk, whether female or male. The launch of this study echoes the recommendations of the French National Authority for Health (HAS) of February 1, 2022.

How to participate in the CASCADE study?

The study will take place in four French cities: Paris, Rennes, Grenoble and Bethune where several modes of invitation to screening will be tested, including an invitation joined to that of the mammography screening for breast cancer. It will be carried out in collaboration with the Regional Cancer Screening Coordination Centers (CRCDC) of the towns concerned. She addresses a female population at risk of lung cancer: women aged 50 to 74, smokers or ex-smokers. The objective is to recruit 2,400 women over a period of 2 years.
