This brings the total cost of the project to $6.1 million. Phase 1 included work from Colborne Street North from Robinson to Union Street, which was substantially completed in October 2023. A report presented at a council-in-committee meeting on Feb. 13 said a few minor deficiencies still need to be addressed, as well as completing the installation of streetlights.

Phase 2 of the project includes full road reconstruction on Colborne Street North from Union Street to 40 meters south of Windham Street. Due to the location of existing linear infrastructure, said the report, it’s anticipated there will be road closures throughout the duration of the work, which includes full replacement of the sanitary sewer; watermain; storm sewer; road structure, including asphalt, curbs and concrete sidewalks; upgrades to street lighting infrastructure; and alterations to the intersection of Colborne Street North and Bonnie Drive.

The reconstruction of Colborne Street North was originally designed and planned to be completed in one phase, with an overall budget of $5.94 million. During the design stage, said the report, it was determined construction would be split in two phases “due to the complexity, scope of work and to ensure the overall success of the project.”

The funding is being provided from several county reserves. The matter requires final approval at an upcoming council meeting.
