[Rocky Balboa] was the biggest challenge I’ve ever had to face Absolutely nobody [wollte ihn machen]. Many thought it was a joke. But I loved the idea. […] The first Rocky is great, of course, but [Rocky Balboa] was almost an impossible dream. For 12 long years I pushed this boulder up the mountain against incredible negativity. Someday I’ll tell the whole story.

Stallone does not explain exactly what difficulties he had to fight against. Rocky Balboa followed the last installment in the series, Rocky V, 16 years behind shattered belief in the franchise’s renewed success.

But Stallone prevailed. With success. The story of the 6th part about an aging Rocky who lost his beloved wife Adrian and ventures into the ring one last time was well received by critics.
