Sweden loses the JVM final against the USA – despite the enormous support at home

The first Swedish JVM gold in twelve years was within reach – but in the final the Junior crowns were not enough.

The USA won 6–2

Sweden started strong but the USA took the lead in the match. In numerical superiority, Gabe Perreault poked in the lead goal.

Sweden’s answer came early in the second period. Mattias Hävelid shot and Otto Stenberg steered. 1–1 in a boiling Scandinavium.

But then the USA would score two straight goals, both through Isaac Howard. With five seconds left in the second period, Jonathan Lekkerimäki thundered in an important 2-3 reduction.

Early in the third period, Zeev Buium made it 4–2 and with less than four minutes left, Ryan Leonard made it 5–2, and the USA made it 6–2 in an empty net.
