Zaniar Matapour, 43, was arrested shortly after the shooting at two bars in central Oslo where two people were shot dead and more were injured. He was arrested shortly afterwards.
It has emerged from court documents that Matapour has previously been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He has so far refused to cooperate with the police, be questioned or allow himself to be examined by experts.
The experts who have the task of assessing how sane the 43-year-old is do not consider themselves to have been given the opportunity to do this properly. Therefore, he is forcibly admitted to a psychiatric ward at Haukeland University Hospital for a special kind of observation for up to eight weeks.
The Oslo District Court has made a decision on this when it is considered necessary, reports The online newspaper.
The act in Oslo took place on 25 June. In addition to the two people killed, 21 people were injured. Zaniar Matapour is suspected of terrorist crimes and at an early stage, the Norwegian police stated that the act was suspected to be Islamistically motivated. The security police PST had been in contact with the 43-year-old only a few weeks earlier when he was said to have shown interest in various statements that were perceived as violations of Islam.
