Suspected jihadist attack in Burkina Faso

Around 20 people are suspected to have been killed by jihadists in Burkina Faso, security sources say.

The attack took place in a region bordering Togo and the victims are “mainly traders”, the sources said. Several people are also said to be injured.

Burkina Faso has been ravaged by a jihadist insurgency since 2015 when it swept in from neighboring Mali.

More than 16,000 civilians, soldiers and police have been killed in jihadist attacks, including 5,000 so far this year, according to a non-governmental organization.
