Amir Abdu, one of the survivors of the fire, said that they arrived at the wedding a little late and after entering, they sat near the door.

Sleva Hamokan, who experienced the tragic moments, said that after the halay, while the bride and groom were about to dance, fireworks were exploded and the sparks first ignited the curtains and suddenly the hall was surrounded by flames.

Stating that they experienced a great disaster, Hamokan described the moments of horror he experienced with the following words:

“Everywhere was on fire, we couldn’t get out of the door, we were trapped inside. We broke the door by force and got out. We couldn’t remove the injured and dead bodies. One of the arriving ambulances also had an accident.”

Lüey Bünyamin, who witnessed the incident, stated that flames suddenly surrounded all sides of the hall at the wedding, and fire brigade, civil defense, intelligence, police and military arrived at the scene.

“A VERY BIG DISASTER”

Stating that some of his relatives were injured, Bünyamin said that they experienced a great disaster, ambulances did not arrive and they could not remove the bodies.

Bünyamin stated that two of his close relatives died in the fire and that many people have not yet received information about their condition.

Adra Tamır, who lost her 66-year-old mother-in-law in the incident, said that they were in the living room at the time of the fire and she barely saved her children.

Stating that the flames spread all over the hall within seconds, Tamır stated that they could not save his elderly mother-in-law.

It was stated that there were approximately 800 people in the wedding hall at the time of the fire, which was reported to the press as being caused by fireworks.

9 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY

While Governor al-Ciburi declared a 1-week mourning period in the city for those who lost their lives, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani announced that 3 days of mourning were declared throughout the country. It was noted that 9 people were detained within the scope of the investigation launched into the fire.
