By his side until his last breath, he had his closest family, and the grief is palpable every day for the family members. The brother Stig Salming recently visited TV4 and “Nyhetsmorgon” to open up about the time after Börje’s passing.
– It comes up all the time, of course, and it’s not just Börje, but my wife passed away a few years ago and in the same vein as Börje, my mother also passed away. There has been a lot going around in one. I feel like I’m starting to land, but the hardest part is coming home to your own home and it’s empty. It’s the hardest part, I have to say, says Stig in the TV programme.
– You have to try to get hold of it, I have my family, my children and grandchildren. I’ll clear this up, but it’s admittedly heavy between laps. You have to try to live with the things that happen.

Salming’s grief

Then big brother Salming says the heartbreaking words that make all Swedes be touched right to the heart.
– Of course, you had hoped to have Börje with you for maybe another 10 years, but then it suddenly happened in half a year and then we lost Börje, the whole family. I think of Pia and the children, ugh, says Stig emotionally on TV4.

After the tragic death of the hockey icon, the brother has tried to keep busy and helped as much as possible with Börje Salming’s ALS foundation. Stig Salming has been involved in organizing the “Game for Börje” match and the “An evening for Börje” gala which raised millions of kroner for the important ALS research.
– You can say that it has been incredibly effective in getting the message across. It’s fantastically well done, he says of all the fundraising.
– Börje managed to start the whole thing up and has been involved from the beginning. He wanted to participate to the highest degree to get this started and as he himself said: “We have to try to stop this shit”. It is a horrible disease. You realize today that there are more people than I thought who have been affected.
