Sony will soon be releasing more “first-party” titles on Steam that were previously only available for PS5 – in 2022 they brought in big money

For a long time, Sony kept some titles from their “First Party” studios for themselves and their PS4 and PS5. These were exactly the “exclusive” titles that PC gamers could only envy from afar. That has changed and will change even more in the future. Because the sales of their actual exclusive titles such as Spiderman Remastered, God of War or The Last of US Part 1, which were brought to Steam in 2022, look great in the business figures.

What’s the trend? In 2022, Sony increasingly pursued a new strategy of bringing their “first-party games” to the PC via Steam. These are the games that were actually always made exclusively for their PS4 and PS5 consoles and were considered “system sellers”.

But as PCGamer writes, this “exclusive attitude” has relaxed in recent years and this has had a significant impact on the business figures of the past year.

In plain language: Sony suddenly made a lot of money with their “actually exclusive” games when they were also sold on Steam.

Sony Significantly Increases Revenue in Others PC Category in 2022

How successful is Sony with it? Sales of “first-party” titles on platforms other than PS4 and PS5 appear to have exploded in Q3 and Q4 of fiscal 2022.

Sales are listed under the Ohters category, along with sales of peripherals such as PlayStation VR:

In the “Ohters” category you can see that the revenue almost doubled compared to 2022 to 2021. They jumped from 187 million yen to 339 million yen.

In Q4 alone, revenue went from about $380 million to over $1 billion.

It’s not just “PS5 games that came to PC,” but certainly a significant proportion.

The important column is “Others”, this is where the histories of Sony first party titles on PC flow in.

What games is that due to? As PC Gamer points out, Sony released these games for Steam in 2022:

Those are some strong releases on Steam.

  • to bring existing games to the PC
  • and further develop live service games.
  • For us on MeinMMO, Sony’s “Live Service” games are particularly interesting. Here we already have a rough overview of what we can expect in the next few years:
