In Somaliland, tension is rising again around Las Anod, six months after very deadly fighting in this town at the heart of a disputed region between Somalia and Somaliland – a self-proclaimed republic since 1991. On Friday August 25, an important military base near Las Anod was taken by a local militia. On Saturday, the president of Somaliland promised that the army would take revenge.
