SMHI issues several yellow warnings – the snow storm can cause problems in traffic

A snowfall area has moved in over large parts of Götaland and western Svealand on the night of Thursday, SMHI writes on its website, where it issued yellow warnings that the snow could “cause problems in traffic”.

For eastern Svealand, the snow is expected to change to rain in the afternoon and evening, and SMHI has therefore issued a yellow warning for sudden ice slippage.

The forecast for the New Year’s weekend currently shows that a “deep and extensive low pressure” with snow and windy weather will move in and the middle parts of the country could experience “quite difficult conditions”, according to SMHI. However, it is emphasized that this forecast is still uncertain and may be adjusted.

Large parts of public transport in Västra Götaland cancelled

In large parts of Dalsland, Vänersborg, Strömstad, Tanum and Uddevalla, public transport is completely suspended during Thursday morning. Some lines in Mölndal are also affected by the morning’s weather.
According to Västtrafik, there is no forecast for when traffic is expected to resume.
– When the road keepers have salted, graveled and plowed, we go out, and it’s about making it safe for drivers and travelers, says Mette Ramquist, press manager at Västtrafik.
