Several Trump allies spared charges in Georgia election tampering case despite grand jury recommendation

The judge ordered Trumps trial to begin before Super Tuesday

A previously classified report has been released in the state of Georgia, according to which a special grand jury would have indicted three senators, among others.

In the United States, a report released Friday reveals that a special grand jury in the state of Georgia has recommended the indictment of several former presidents Donald Trump’s against allies in the election interference case.

A special grand jury recommended criminal charges against three Republican senators, among others.

Finally, the Fulton County District Attorney Fan Willis decided not to indict many people in an investigation into an alleged attempt to overturn Trump’s loss in the 2020 presidential election.

The report was classified for nine months. It was released because a Fulton County judge said withholding the report is no longer justified after charges have already been filed.

Senators and advisers on the list

According to the report, a special grand jury recommended criminal charges against two then-Senators from Georgia, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue as well as a senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham against. Loeffler and Perdue are no longer senators.

In addition, the grand jury recommended charges against Trump’s former national security adviser To Michael Flynnadvisor To Boris Epshteyn and for lawyers For Lin Wood and To Cleta Mitchell.

None of those individuals were ultimately charged when Georgia prosecutors filed criminal charges against Trump and 18 others.

A special grand jury convened in 2021 at the request of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to assist her in the investigation.

Over several months, 75 witnesses were called to testify. Among them were Trump’s allies, such as his former lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Senator Graham and leading officials of the state of Georgia such as Gov Brian Kemp.

A special grand jury had no power to indict. But Willis used the evidence he gathered to obtain an indictment from a regular grand jury.

According to the indictment, Trump and his co-accused sought to obstruct Joe Biden election victory in the state of Georgia.

All 19 defendants have denied their guilt. Trump has denied any wrongdoing and says he is the victim of a political manhunt.

Despite his legal problems, Trump is clearly leading the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
