Sarnia workplace blast sends two workers to hospital

An explosion at a Sarnia workplace sent two workers to hospital Tuesday afternoon, Sarnia Fire Rescue Services says.

Firefighters, police and Lambton Emergency Medical Services were called to the 200 block of Henry Street shortly before 5 pm, a service release said. Firefighters and paramedics treated two injured workers, who were taken to Bluewater Health.

“Due to the nature of this incident, the Ministry of Labor and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office have been notified and are taking over the investigation,” the fire service said.

No other information was being released, the service’s Mike Otis said.

A ministry spokesperson said by email the employer is Aluma Power Corp. and two ministry inspectors have been assigned to the case.

“As the ministry’s investigation is ongoing, we cannot provide further details at this time,” the spokesperson said.
