Säpo in crackdown in southern Sweden after terror plans in Denmark

The Säpor raids in Sweden are linked to the major terrorist target in Denmark, according to information to TV4 Nyheterna.

Early in the morning of December 14, Danish anti-terrorist forces together with the country’s intelligence service PET, the equivalent of the Security Police, carried out a large-scale operation.

Danish police stated at the same time that, according to the suspicions, an attack was prevented and that the suspicions concern preparation for terrorist crimes.

Triple Säpot surcharge in southern Sweden

Six people were later arrested in the case and one person was released. Four of the six are in custody in their absence and have been wanted. According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, one of the hunted is a 32-year-old Swedish man registered in Skåne. He is suspected of involvement in terrorist plots.

TV4 Nyheterna can now tell you that Swedish Säpo has recently carried out several crackdowns in southern Sweden linked to the man. The raids were carried out on orders from the PET and they attacked three different locations linked to the 32-year-old. Säpo confirms the effort but does not want to comment on the connection to Denmark.

– We have assisted in a legal aid request linked to one of our areas of operation. As it is a legal aid request, we refer all other questions about this matter to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, says Fredrik Hultgren-Friberg, press secretary at Säpo.

Several finds made

Prosecutors at the National Security Unit have led the Säpor raids from the Swedish side. A number of items were seized in connection with the three house searches that were carried out.

– There were no objects that were judged to be acutely dangerous, that much I can say. It is about the request for legal assistance and there has been a seizure of another country’s request. I cannot say anything else about the content or the case, it is a foreign investigation where there is pre-trial secrecy in that country, says Chamber prosecutor Henrik Olin.

The prosecutor does not want to confirm that the attacks are connected to the major terrorist target in Denmark. He also cannot comment on Säpo’s raids or whether contact has been made with the hunted 32-year-old. According to a decision from today, the seized items will now be handed over to the country that requested the raids, says Henrik Olin.

The 32-year-old is well known to Swedish police

The hunted 32-year-old is believed to be abroad. He was previously registered in Malmö but is now registered in another part of Skåne. The man has long been well known within the criminal environment in Malmö. He has been part of one of the city’s gangs and has, among other things, survived an assassination attempt where he was shot by a rival motorcycle network.

Danish security police have previously stated at a press conference that several of the suspects in the terror investigation are connected to the gang environment in Denmark and the banned network Loyal to Familia.

The country’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has called the suspicions “extremely serious”.

The 32-year-old’s lawyer does not want to comment. TV4 Nyheterna has sought PET and Danish police.
