“Everyone will love me and despair!”says Cate Blanchett as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, before she can barely resist the temptation of the Ring of Power. The actress was so strong-willed as an elf lady, but one of her next roles completely gives in to her fantasies of domination.
Only this time she’s not playing a high-fantasy noblewoman, but rather an alien with a mission to conquer the earth.
Fantasy star Cate Blanchett is set to conquer the world in a sci-fi comedy
Blanchett was named, according to The Hollywood Reporter AlphaOne cast, a sci-fi comedy film by brothers David and Nathan Zellner (Sasquatch Sunset). As the leader of an alien gang, she comes to our planet and poses as a 50s biker gang. But then feelings that are completely impractical for the conquest come into play and the mission is put in danger.
Together with producer Coco Francini, Blancett released a statement about the project:
The Zellner brothers’ work fails to surprise and delight us. In Alpha Gang they created a crazy world to satirize something much closer to home: the human condition.
MK2 Films’ film project will be available for purchase in Cannes next week. Until then, the project remains a bit in limbo.
In addition to her iconic role in the Lord of the Rings films, the Australian actress is known for her work on films such as Carol, Tár and Thor 3: Judgment Day. This year she will also be seen in the video game adaptation Borderlands.
