SVT/Verian: The opposition continues to lead – but in these counties the Tidö parties have the upper hand

If there were parliamentary elections today, the opposition would get 51.6 percent of the votes and the Tidö parties 46.2 percent, shows the latest voter barometer from Verian for the month of May. The levels between the two blocs have been stable for the past six months, even if the Tidö parties have made some inroads.

  • The Green Party’s highest rating since the election

Among the parliamentary parties, there are no parties with a statistically certain change in the voter barometer compared to the month before. The Green Party receives voter support of 5.1 percent in May, which is the highest figure for the Green Party since the election in 2022. Compared to April, the party increased by +0.6 percentage points.

    – The Green Party has a more favorable position in public opinion and is significantly above the parliamentary threshold for the first time in a long time. The election of Amanda Lind was made with broad support at the same time as the EU election seems to raise the climate issue, says Per Söderpalm, opinion manager at Verian.

Breaking the trend for the Moderates

In the spring polls, the Moderates have gradually increased their voter support. In April, voter support was up to 20.5 percent, but now the trend is broken and the Moderates fall back in May to 18.9 percent.

    – The moderates’ rise in opinion does not continue. It is perhaps not so surprising given the criticism the party has received linked to the law on new gender affiliation and the events surrounding Anna Kinberg Batra, says Per Söderpalm.

The Sweden Democrats are once again the second largest party

Unlike the Moderates, who are backing down in the latest survey, voter support for the Sweden Democrats is increasing, which has increased by +0.7 percentage points since last month.

    – The fact that gang crime is again in focus may be a reason why the Sweden Democrats are once again on the rise. We saw a similar development last autumn when the wave of violence dominated the political conversation, says Per Söderpalm, opinion manager at Verian.
