SACBO after the record 2023 multiplies its commitment to sustainability

(Finance) – SACBOthe management company of Milan Bergamo Airport, is preparing to close 2023 with a new one historical maximum of passengers, just under 16 million, which corresponds to an increase of 16% compared to 2019, i.e. 2 million more. The first post-Covid year without health restrictions (present until the first quarter of 2022) also offers the overcoming, for the first timeof the share of 200 million turnover. While waiting for the final economic data, which will be available at the end of March 2024, an important indicator is the recovery of non-aviation activities who scored +20% compared to last year.

Giovanni Sangapresident of the management company of Milan Bergamo airport, spoke about year of great satisfactionsstarting from the recognition given by ACI WorldOf best European airport 2022 in the 5-15 million category of passengers based on the level of appreciation by passengers. Two fundamental steps were the definition of the urban planning compliance of the new Airport Development Plan to 2030 and the unanimous approval of Airport Acoustic Zoning Planwhich marks a fundamental contribution to the increasingly marked environmental sustainability of the airport, a chapter to which SACBO allocates 13 of the 60 million investments expected in 2024. The first scientific findings relating to the epidemiological investigation conducted by ATS Bergamo on the population residing in ten municipalities around the airport are also encouraging, from which it can be deduced that the data they are comparable to the rest of the Bergamo area.

In 2024, a third of investments of SACBO will be intended for infrastructural worksincluding the completion of the works to upgrade the aircraft apron and taxiways and the project to extend the west side of the terminal with the expansion of the area dedicated to check-in and security checks.

Sanga announced that by March 2024 will be completed on connection tunnel between the airport and the future terminus station of the new one railway routea work which entailed an expense borne by the manager of 12 million. In 2024, a new one will be activated in a remote area of ​​the airport grounds photovoltaic system which will supply 10% of the energy necessary for the operation of the airport. At the same time, the renewal of the fleet of electric service vehicles (3 million investment) and the completion of thecycle/pedestrian ring which connects to the interprovincial cycle routes. Other important pieces, linked to accessibility, are the opening of the road link of direct connection with the A4 toll booth and the creation of the access road from the east. Sanga pointed to 2024 as a year of consolidation of the traffic level reached uptaking into account the Capital of Culture effect, from which the airport has benefited, and the routes still suspended due to the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
