Royal award for Utrecht actor Bright Richards: ‘I feel supported’

Royal award for Utrecht actor Bright Richards I feel supported

The actor fled his native Liberia in 1991. “The impact of war on a human life is something you wouldn’t wish on anyone,” says Richards. In the Netherlands he studied at the Theater Academy and then played with various theater companies. His experience as a refugee inspired him to make a difference in the lives of other newcomers to the Netherlands. “The people you meet in your new country determine your future.” He wrote and directed his own life story and that of two others in the performance ‘As I Left My Father’s House’. “I see refugees and newcomers as expats. If we treat them all as expats, they can enrich society.”
