Revas story in Obi Wan was supposed to be very different

After the end of Obi-Wan Kenobi, more and more details are coming to light, giving us a glimpse of the long history of the project grant. Before the Star Wars spin-off turned into a series on Disney+, a film trilogy starring Ewan McGregor was planned for cinemas. But that’s not the only change.

As screenwriter Stuart Beattie reveals in an interview with The Direct, he had completely different plans for the most important new character in the story: while the one played by Moses Ingram Inquisitor Reva purified and survived in the series, her story had a much darker ending in the original version.

Reva in Obi-Wan Kenobi: Actually, the new Star Wars villain should die

Back to the beginning: In Beattie’s Kenobi trilogy, Reva was a member of the Jedi Order and became injured by Anakin during Order 66. This motivates her thoughts of revenge on the Jedi. Little did Reva know in the movies that beneath Vader’s helmet is the same man who marked her for life, Beattie explains.

I was like, ‘How does she know this thing in a mechanical suit that everyone calls Darth Vader is the guy who killed her, or at least tried to kill her?’ [In meiner Geschichte] it was Obi-Wan who she into this secret. Her reaction: ‘Oh my god, I was wrong the whole time.’ She then saves Kenobi by sacrificing herself and saying to Vader, ‘I killed Kenobi.’ And then Vader kills Reva. She knew he would. That would have completed her arc.

Reva in Obi Wan Kenobi

Where the series featured other well-known Star Wars characters like the Grand Inquisitor and the Fifth Brother, Reva was in Beattie’s version solely on behalf of the Inquisition en route, chasing Obi-Wan across the galaxy far, far away. Despite her change for the better, Beattie wouldn’t have considered redeeming the character.

I wanted Reva to be the character in the Kenobi Vader story who, at the end, tells Vader more or less directly that he can stop chasing Kenobi. She ends Vader’s obsession with Kenobi by claiming that [Obi-Wan nicht mehr am Leben ist]. That was her role. She had so many terrible things [als Inquisitorin] done to the point of being beyond redemption.Obi-Wan Can’t Kill Darth Vader: Reva brings the necessary drop to the Kenobi story

For Reva’s motivation, Beattie delved deep into the aftermath of Order 66. In an interview, he reveals that he has a “contradictory, blind character full of hatred and anger” wanted to create, who gets on a wrong path and only finds out the truth at the end. In addition, the figure was necessary to to allow a fall heightas Obi-Wan and Vader reappear in Star Wars 4: A New Hope.

We always knew Obi-Wan could never kill Darth Vader. So he had to defeat someone else. Reva was my attempt to pair him with a character that he defeat or redeem. Because Vader certainly won’t redeem him. The Darth Vader story will end with a downer. I wanted wanted to save someone, that’s why I created Reva.

Reva in Obi Wan Kenobi

Even before the start of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it was known that the scripts were in favor of a more hopeful note have been revised. The fact that Reva was not only redeemed in the series, but also survived, should be due to this. In addition, Lucasfilm can now bring the character back in other Star Wars projects.

After it for the past few weeks already Rumors of a Reva spin-off there was also the question of a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the room. Should this get the green light, it is conceivable that Reva will also play a role in it.
