The United States has made a proposal to Israel and Hamas regarding the exchange of hostages during the ceasefire talks hosted by Qatar. An Israeli official familiar with the negotiations told the news agency Reuters on Saturday.

According to the Reuters news agency, the United States has made a proposal to the parties on how many imprisoned Palestinians Israel must release in exchange for each hostage released by Hamas.

The head of Mossad, Israel’s intelligence service David Barnean The delegation led by Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency CIA William Burns has helped the Qatari and Egyptian authorities mediate negotiations.

According to an anonymous Israeli official, “during the negotiations, significant gaps appeared in the issue of the ratio of hostages”. According to him, the United States brought a proposal to the table, to which Israel responded positively, but Hamas’s response is still open. According to Reuters, the Israeli official did not give details about the US proposal.

When asked about the relationship between hostages and prisoners, a senior Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri referred to a proposal made by the Hamas government earlier in March, according to Reuters. At the time, Hamas proposed that it would release women, children, the elderly and the sick from its hostages in exchange for Israel releasing 700 to 1,000 Palestinians from its prisons. Israel has called this unrealistic.

The US Embassy in Israel did not immediately comment on the matter.
