Denmark’s new coalition government is preparing to cancel the public holiday to boost defense spending.
According to reports in the Danish media, the decision was taken by the coalition consisting of the Social Democratic Party, the Liberal Party and the Moderate Party.
The coalition government, which was formed after 42 days of negotiations after the elections, will focus on defense spending.
It is noteworthy that the issue of defense has come to the fore more in the country, especially with the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.
To this end, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced that the government will cancel one of Denmark’s 11 public holidays in order to boost productivity and economic activity. The “Day of Great Prayer”, which was declared a public holiday in 1686, is expected to be canceled after the said decision.
