Regular sampling reduces the risk of cervical cancer by 90 percent.

In the vast majority of cases, the self-testing will replace a visit to a midwife, but for those who want, the opportunity to get tested at a midwife’s clinic will still remain.

– In principle, all cervical cancer is due to an infection with HVP, and therefore it is important to get tested, says Björn Svartsgård, senior physician at the Women’s Clinic at Västmanland Hospital.

The test only takes a few minutes

According to the region, the test only takes a few minutes to complete and then the test must be submitted to the region for test results. Self-testing must be as safe and effective as performing the test with a midwife.

The region also recommends that women who have already been vaccinated continue to submit tests, as the vaccine does not provide one hundred percent protection against cervical cancer.
