A woman in Skåne had been feeding a breeding dog for two years, but when it came time to return it to its owner, she refused. After a settlement in court, the parties have now agreed and the dog must be handed over to the owner, in a neutral location.

The owner reported the woman, and the question of who actually has the right to the dog has now been decided at Ystad’s district court, Ystad’s Allehanda reports.

The woman’s argument was that the agreement between her and the owner did not mention anything about a return of the dog and that according to “custom” after a number of litters and years, it becomes the property of the feed owner.

But in court, the parties agreed on a settlement which means that the woman must return the dog to the owner, and that the owner in turn must pay SEK 25,000 to the woman in compensation.

The handover must, as part of the settlement, take place with a veterinarian who will examine that it is indeed the right dog and that it has not been neutered.
