Zack Snyder revealed to Rebel Moon 2 star Sofia Boutella how the Oracle from 300 came to be

When asked about her favorite Zack Snyder films, Boutella said:

I love Watchmen and 300. 300 contains one of my favorite scenes of all time: Leonidas consults the Oracle. The oracle is a beautiful woman. I thought to myself, “I really have to ask Zack. whether he filmed the scene underwater.” And that’s exactly what he did. The scene Boutella describes takes place in the first 20 minutes of the film. Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) receives the oracle’s prediction of his war against the Persians. One acts as an oracle young woman (Kelly Craig) who seems to float through the air.

The oracle scene from 300

The fact that Snyder shot the scene underwater will have been a secret to many fans. In an interview with Studio Daily in 2007, effects specialist Jeremy Hunt explained that working with the scene was anything but easy: Zack Snyder first shot Kelly Craig underwater, then her character had to be adapted to a digital background. Especially air bubbles and different lighting conditions caused difficulties.

As Sofia Boutella’s enthusiasm proves, the effort was worth it. Many Zack Snyder fans will still remember the 300 scene 18 years after the film’s release.
