The Ombudsman for Justice (JO) criticizes a prison employee in Gothenburg who mocked an inmate who was reading the Koran, reports Göteborgs-Posten.

After the employee was reported to the JO, the Correctional Service carried out an investigation, and according to a statement from the authority, several managers had received information that he behaved inappropriately towards people “of a different religion or who he perceived to be of foreign origin.”

A reprimanding conversation has been held with the detention officer, and he has admitted his actions.

In addition, he avoids disciplinary sanctions. JO thinks that the Probation Service’s measures were appropriate.

The prison employee deserves criticism for what happened, according to JO, who at the same time states that it is serious when staff within the Correctional Service exposes inmates to violations.
