The pyramid in Woudenberg is inspired by the pyramid of Giza in Egypt. The client was the French general Auguste de Marmont, he had the pyramid built so that his soldiers would not be bored. “The French soldiers were sent by Napoleon to occupy the Netherlands,” explains Burgers. “But after they had done their exercises, they had nothing more to do. The general then thought of building such a pyramid so that they could keep busy.”
