POLICE BRIEFS: Thieves steal $500 worth of food from Erie Drive-In

Erie Drive-In had to delay opening to start the week after $500 worth of food was reported stolen.

The restaurant’s owner contacted police at 10 am Monday after it was found that food was missing from its freezers. A chain link fence at the back of the Erie Street business had also been cut, and police believe the theft happened within the pervious couple of hours before being discovered by the owner, though the exact time is unknown.

Thieves nab welding cylinders

Around 15 cylinders typically used for welding purposes were stolen from a Stratford business, police said.

Police received the report Monday at 8:30 am from a business on Lorne Avenue East in Stratford. A fence at the back of the business had been cut, providing access to a storage facility containing acetylene and hydrogen bottles.

Several of the cylinders were believed to be empty, and police said there are no concerns to public safety.

The theft is believed to have occurred between Sunday evening and Monday morning. There are no suspects, and Stratford police ask that anyone with information contacts the non-emergency line at 519-271-4141, or to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS or p3tips.com.

Vehicle clocked at more than double speed limit

A 28-year-old Woodstock resident will need to get a ride for the next 30 days after reportedly being clocked driving more than double the speed limit on a Perth County road.

Stratford police flagged the black BMW sports utility vehicle on March 21, shortly before 6:30 pm, on Perth Road 112 near Line 29 in Perth South after radar reportedly recorded it traveling 173 kilometers per hour in an 80 km/h zone.

The driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding and will appear in court April 23. The driver was also issued a 30-day driver’s license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
