Norfolk OPP are warning residents to be aware of a series of scams involving fake jewelry.

Police said they investigated a fraud on Dec. 11 at at West Street address in Simcoe where a victim was approached by a man who said he had lost his wallet and needed help.

When the victim declined to give him money, the man said he would sell some of his jewelry to the victim, assuring them of its value.

After the victim exchanged money for the jewelry, they had it appraised at a local jewelry store and found it to be fake.

The victim found that others in the community had fallen prey to similar schemes in the last few weeks.

The suspect man in the case has a heavy build and a thick accent. He was seen leaving in a gray Audi SUV after selling the jewelry.

Police are circulating a photo of the vehicle.

ATV and tools stolen on Windham Road

An ATV worth thousands of dollars was stolen recently from a Windham Road 12 home in Norfolk County.

Norfolk OPP said the machine was one of the items taken during a recent break-and-enter at a garage late Dec. 8 or early Dec. 9.

Police investigated at about 8:45 am Dec. 9 and found the tan-colored 2022 Polaris M57, had been taken, along with tools and other miscellaneous items.

Police have released a photo of a similar ATV and are encouraging anyone who may have information about the ongoing investigation to contact them.

Police seek identity of man seen at crime site

Norfolk OPP are hoping someone can help identify a man seen in a surveillance video after a local business was burgled.

Police responded to the theft at an address on Highway 3, Windham in Norfolk on Dec. 7 and found that a man had arrived at about 1 am at the location and left with about $35,000 in tools and equipment from a sea container and a vehicle.

Some of the items taken include a pair of Honda generators, a DeWalt skill saw, a DeWalt tool bag holding various power tools, a 14-inch Stihl concrete saw, a Topcon dual slop laser, a pair of Spectra two-slope lasers and various other tools.

Several of the items are distinctively engraved with the words “CDN Concrete”.

The man seen in surveillance video appears to be dressed in a jacket, pants, boots and gloves and had his face covered.

Anyone who may have information about this investigation is encouraged to call the Norfolk OPP.
