Man charged with attempted murder following shooting in downtown Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are asking anyone who witnessed or has surveillance footage of a Sunday shooting to come forward.

According to previously published reports, a man was shot in a clash near King Street West and Fifth Street about 1 am Sunday.

A 32-year-old Chatham man suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and remains in hospital, police said.

Court documents identify the victim as Kyle Wright-Morgan, 32.

Jared Atwell, 25, was charged with attempted murder with a firearm. At a bail hearing Monday, he was remanded in custody pending a court appearance Friday. A publication ban was imposed on evidence heard during the pre-trial phase.

“There is no concern for public safety,” police said in a release Tuesday. “These individuals were known to each other, and the incident is considered an isolated event. . .”

“We ask anyone with video surveillance or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.”
