Players use unfair strategies to score points on the leaderboards

The leaderboards have been available in Diablo 4 for about a week and players are already using unfair strategies to collect as many points as possible in the Gauntlet.

Since patch 1.3.3, the leaderboards have been available in Diablo 4 and associated with them the “Gauntlets” (in the German version “challenge” or “test”). You can compete with other players in dungeons that change every week.

The most important thing here is your strategy and speed. In order to get through the dungeon as efficiently as possible and collect a lot of points, it is helpful to think about a route and a procedure and to expand on this during the passages.

Players have now apparently figured out a strategy to gain an unfair advantage. We won’t explain exactly how the strategy works. Keep in mind that Blizzard isn’t known for its mercy when it comes to exploiting bugs. A streamer looked at the strategy.

“And that’s why they urgently need a PTR”

What kind of exploit is this? In a stream, Diablo expert Rob2628, who is known for his OP builds, tests the strategy that is described to him in the chat. He uses an exploit in the dungeon that allows him to immediately target all enemies and receive a big buff.

What does the streamer say about this? Rob is visibly surprised by the strategy and says ironically: “Good system. Oh, shit ey.” Later he repeats “What the hell” several times and states: “That’s shitty.” He laughs and at the same time puts his hand in front of his face. He captured the situation as a clip on Twitch.

When he wants to leave the dungeon and clicks “End Trial”, the timer is canceled, but he remains in the dungeon. The “Leave Dungeon” button on the emote wheel also doesn’t work. His conclusion: “I’m looking forward to the PTR, man.” (Public Test Realm, in German: public test server).

What’s the problem with that? With the strategy, players could gain an unfair advantage in the Gauntlets and advance the farming of points. If there were a test server, such problems and errors would be noticed before the features come to the “real” server.

The developers already said in their last Campfire Chat livestream that there will be a public test server in Diablo 4 for Season 4.

What does the community say about this? In Rob2628’s chat, its moderator writes: “It’s only the first week, and it’s not even over yet.” The clip was picked up in a post on Reddit on March 10th. The top comment comes from “cinderson”. He writes: “It’s good that [das Leaderboard] was postponed to correct the errors.”

A user mentions the need for a test server, which Rob also mentioned:

And that’s why they desperately need a PTR, not just for big changes but also for the smallest changes to any mechanic.

They lack experienced players, they may be experienced developers, but they don’t know how players think, how some look for a glitch, bug, exploit in their favor…

Just as big companies sometimes hire hackers to develop security systems, developers need to let some players who actually understand how the game works try their stuff out.
