Player finds secret ending in Baldur’s Gate 3, has to sacrifice most popular character but is still fast

Baldur’s Gate 3 hasn’t been playable on PC for long, but early players have already figured out speedrun techniques. They finish the game in 10 minutes and use certain game mechanics – as well as a secret and rather tragic ending.

What is this ending?

Spoiler alert! Since this is about the end of Baldur’s Gate 3, spoilers are obviously inevitable. Nevertheless, we try to reveal as little about the story as possible and limit ourselves to the important things.

Here’s how the secret ending works: Gale is the main character for the ending. This is due to his special circumstance: a magic bomb is built into his chest, the reason for his hunger for magic items.

At the start of Act 2, Gale has the option to converse with the bomb’s “maker” and plan its deployment. When he meets the 3 opponents and “the Absolute” for the first time, he can ignite them.

If he does, Gale will sacrifice himself, but he will also blow up all the bad guys at the same time. The power of the bomb is enough to completely wipe out even the power of opponents.

Speedrun with jumps and a powerful magician

Speedrunners now use this secret ending to create the fastest possible runs. This may be one of the reasons why Gale is the most popular Origin character.

YouTuber Mae holds the current record with his run of 10:03 minutes. Not only does he make full use of the secret ending, but also some of the game’s mechanics. You can see the entire run here:

For example, Mae builds Gale on strength as much as possible to increase his jump range. With the “jump” spell, he triples the distance for jumping and thus moves hopping through the world.

Finally, he uses a ward from Shadowheart that allows him to get faster through Act 2 to the Moonlight Towers, where he jumps through a hole in the wall straight to the end. Half naked and with the bomb in his chest, he then faces the enemies.

It’s not really a “good” ending, by the way. The parasites that are initially planted in you are held in check by the Absolute – or more accurately, by the control of the Three.

If this control is gone, either all the larvae used hatch or their hosts die otherwise. Strictly speaking, that would probably be the lesser evil, because the return of the illithid empire is prevented for the time being.

It can be assumed that in the coming time other speed runners will refine the technology or find even better, faster ways to the end. Maybe a little less cruel.

By the way, jumping isn’t the only helpful skill that everyone can master:
