Unfortunately, Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales was a far cry from the fantastical pirate adventure that the movie could have been. Both qualitatively and financially The Pirates of the Caribbean sequel fell short of expectations – despite the film grossing almost $800 million worldwide.

But that’s not enough for Pirates of the Caribbean. Disney clearly expected mega blockbusters here, the effortlessly passed the billion mark. There is no other way to explain the enormous budget of up to 320 million US dollars (excluding marketing costs). For the time being, however, the series will not be continued.

    As things stand, it doesn’t look like Johnny Depp is returning for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 any time soon. Instead, a new film starring Margot Robbie is in development. In addition comes a unspecified projectwhich by all appearances is not a continuation of the established series.

    Warning, spoilers: That’s a pity, especially with regard to the post-credit scene of part 5. Here’s a hint of exactly what fans have been waiting for since 2007: the return of the original trio – including Davy Jones. In the final seconds of the film, by far the best Pirates of the Caribbean villain returns.

    Five years after its theatrical release, however, it doesn’t look like it will Promise of the credits scene ever redeemed. Neither Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann) nor Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) and Bill Nighy (Davy Jones) are associated with any of the current Pirates of the Caribbean projects.

    Pirates of the Caribbean came after the completion of the original trilogy extremely lost in verve. On Stranger Tides and Salazar’s Vengeance never came close to the great Gore Verbinski movies. If Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is actually the last part of the main series, it would be a very unfortunate finale.
