Pierre de Vallombreuse cliches against segregation

In his new book, photographer Pierre de Vallombreuse takes us to Portland in one of the whitest cities on the west coast of the United States. His photo report entitled ” an american class follows the daily life of Jason Davis. A teacher originally from the rural Midwest, he is employed at a school where the majority of students are from minorities. A story at the height of a man at the heart of the fight against segregation in the country.

It is through the lens of his camera that Stone of Vallombreuse captures, all over the world, the gaze of thousands of men and women, whose history is unknown to us.

It is this time on the benches of an elementary school in Portland, on the west coast of the United States, that he invites us to sit down.

In this city, one of the whitest cities in America, four African-American women seek to renew educational approaches and heal the wounds of segregation through education.

For two years, he was the witness, behind his camera, of a funny exercise: the taming, step by step, of a teacher, white, and about twenty pupils from minorities, blacks , mestizo, latin. Young primary school children of the color of those who had no citizenship in this same city only a few years ago.

Photo reporter Pierre de Vallombreuse publishes “ an american class » published by Les Arènes.
