Parole now abolished – Edward Riedl (M): “Will serve his entire sentence”

Today, convicted criminals are automatically released after two-thirds of their sentence if they have not misbehaved.

The Social Democratic government appointed an inquiry that would review the rules regarding parole.

The current government is now working so that whoever is convicted of a crime should serve their entire sentence and that this should be the main rule. They also want the risk of relapse to be assessed.

Only if there are special reasons should parole be granted. The investigation which reviews the directives for parole and the criminalization of absconding shall reported on 1 July 2024.
