One of the most successful German films of the last

When German stars meet for dinner and squabble, crowds flock to the cinemas. That’s what happened with The First Name and a year later (more successfully) with The Perfect Secret. Today you can catch up on the film with Elyas M’Barek, Jella Haase and Karoline Herfurth in the first.

The story of The Perfect Mystery has been filmed 24 times

The Perfect Mystery is based on the 2016 Italian comedy Perfect Strangers. The concept was so universally translatable that the film has been adapted 23 times in other countries so far. There are Versions from Iceland, India, South Korea, Indonesia, Israel, Japan and more.

In Germany, Bora Dagtekin grabbed the material and immediately cast his two Fack Ju Göhte stars Elyas M’Barek and Jella Haase for the film adaptation.

The perfect secret

The story: Seven friends who think they know each other well (M’Barek, Haase, Karoline Herfurth, Florian David Fitz, Frederick Lau, Jessica Schwarz and Wotan Wilke Möhring) meet for dinner. When the conversation turns to the topic of honesty, they agree on an unusual game: Everyone has to put their cell phone on the table. As soon as a call comes in, everyone must be able to hear the conversation. Text messages, on the other hand, should be read out. As the revelations continue, the three women and four men with their seven phones are no longer so sure how well they actually know each other.

The Elyas M’Barek hit is one of the most successful German films of the last 10 years

The film, peppered with a number of well-known guest stars, received mixed reviews, but attracted more than five million viewers in Germany to the cinema with its pointed dialogue and a good cast. In 2019 there was no more successful German film. According to Insidekino, only four German films were released in the last 10 years that surpassed that: the three Fack Ju Göhte films by the same team and Til Schweiger’s Honig im Kopf.

You can see the film today 8:15 p.m. in the first watch ad-free. If you want to catch up on the perfect secret, you can currently stream it with a subscription to WOW * and Sky.

By the way, next Bora Dagtekin and Jella Haase are shooting the Fack Ju Göhte offshoot Chantal in the fairytale land, in which Elyas M’Barek is supposed to have a guest appearance. The comedy is set to hit the cinemas in 2024.
