Amusement park Gröna Lundia in Stockholm has been emptied and closed due to an accident on the roller coaster.
According to the police, there are two injured on the ground, but there are still people in the carriages of the Jetline roller coaster. There is no more detailed information about the condition of the injured.
One person has died in the accident, the newspaper reports ExpressenDagens Nyheter and news agency TT.
– It is unclear what has happened. But part of the roller coaster has collapsed. People have fallen from the carriages, and some are stuck in the carriages, a police spokesman said Moa Hummelgård tells For Dagens Nyheter.
Swedish television SVT says there was an accident on the Jetline roller coaster, and one of the cars came off the track and derailed.
There are several police cars, fire trucks and ambulances at the scene.
Several eyewitnesses to the accident
web producer Jutta Mattsson was spending a summer holiday with his family in Gröna Lund. According to Mattsson, the park was sold out, and there were no more wristbands for adults.
Mattsson’s spouse and daughter had seen the roller coaster accident, while Mattsson himself had been on another device with another child.
– The track had exploded, according to them, a loud noise had been heard. There was a man who had fallen from the carriage into a bush, according to the daughter, a fall of four to five meters. People had shouted and then left the place.
Jetline is one of the most popular devices, says Mattsson. Its length limit is 140 centimeters, so small children cannot access the device.
According to Mattsson, after the accident, the equipment continued to run for a while, after which the park began to be emptied at a leisurely pace. The park had been evacuated shortly after twelve.
Eyewitnesses have also told Aftonbladet about loud bangs.
– First we heard three, four bangs. People started screaming like crazy and then everyone started running. At first I thought someone had shot, an eyewitness Cecilia tells Aftonbladet.
– Then we saw that the wagon’s wheels were on the ground. It must have caused the loud noises. This is horrible, something like this shouldn’t be possible. The accident happened at noon Finnish time.
Witness Yasin Chaudry tells For Expressen having queued for another device when a loud noise started to be heard from the roller coaster. Also according to Chaudry, the wheels of the roller coaster carriages came off.
– Then two people fell to the ground. The third also fell, but he caught the post. Then the whole carriage stopped, Chaudry tells Expressen.
According to rescue workers, there were eight people in the accident car. The five who remained in the carriage have now been helped down to the ground, reports Dagens Nyheter.
The amusement park is investigating the reason
The information manager of the amusement park has confirmed to the Swedish media that the accident resulted in a fatality. The cause of the accident is not yet known, but the matter is being investigated.
– This is terrible. We are all in shock. This should not be possible, Gröna Lund’s information manager Annika Troselius says to Dagens Nyheter.
The top speed of the Jetline roller coaster is 90 km/h, and the highest point of the roller coaster is 30 meters above the ground.
