NVIDIA working on cheat detection in competitive PC games

Tech giant NVIDIA has recently patented a new system that can be used to detect cheaters using superhuman mouse movements in competitive PC games.

A few months ago, the company developed technology that enables AI characters to understand and interact with players in real time, and this marks the graphics card manufacturer’s latest attempt to provide useful software to the gaming industry.

NVIDIA takes a new step to catch cheaters

Many companies such as Ubisoft and Bungie are currently trying to block cheaters and bots online. While NVIDIA is best known for producing some of the best graphics cards in the gaming market, its anti-cheat system could likely be used in future competitive games from other companies as well.

NVIDIA’s new patented technology will detect cheaters in games and detect superhuman movements that can give the user an unfair advantage, especially in competitive environments. NVIDIA specifically states that the main purpose of the technology is to prevent players using aim assists or aim bots in games.

Data will be taken from the player’s movement speed

This feature can probably be difficult to understand the actual technology. But to put it briefly, the system takes data from the player’s movement speed. Then it disassembles this information and compares it with motion data from other sources. That way, they’ll be able to determine if the moves are too bizarre for people to do without cheating.

Similar projects have yielded pretty good results so far. For example, Ubisoft’s MouseTrap anti-cheat system works quite similarly. This is probably why more companies are investing in these anti-fraud solutions.

Methods to prevent cheating in online games can take many different forms. Some companies like NVIDIA and Ubisoft are trying to use new in-game technologies to detect and ban cheaters, while others like Bungie are using more aggressive methods.

For example, Bungie targeted Destiny 2 cheat vendor Ring-1 a few days ago. In fact, Bungie’s strategy is to target cheat vendors and try to shut down their operations by targeting the root cause of the cheats.
