New success for Jonna Sundling in Norway – second in the World Cup sprint after the huge drama against the Norwegian rival

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Jonna Sundling does it again.
And proves once again that she is one of the world’s best sprinters.
On Tuesday, the Swede came second in the World Cup sprint in Drammen, Norway.

Recent years have Jonna Sundling really established herself as the world’s best sprinter on the women’s side. It already started at the Ski World Championships 2021 in Oberstdorf with gold in both the individual sprint and the relay.

Jonna’s greatness

Then it continued with Olympic gold in sprints also during the Winter Olympics in Beijing 2022 and in the last skiing World Cup, the 28-year-old did not disappoint. Again, Sundling won both the individual sprint and the sprint relay for the second straight world championship.

Now she is back at the World Cup again with new success. The Swede had a tough start to the season with a long illness, but since her comeback she has been difficult to stop in her tracks.

Sundling’s success

In five sprints, Sundling has won four of them and on Tuesday it was time for a new form announcement in Norwegian Drammen. The Swedish WC gold hero easily made it to the final by beating the Norwegian rival Kristine Stavå’s Ski City in the semi-finals.

Unfortunately, Sundling became the only Swede in the final when both teammates Maja Dahlqvist and Johanna Hagström lost in the semi-finals. Therefore, Jonna had to represent the blue-yellow flag on her own and she did it with gusto.

Sundling and Skistad made up until the very end, but in the end the Swede had to give up and settle for a fine second place. Skistad thus had to celebrate the second World Cup victory of his career – and that on home ground too.
