New Hobbs movie is coming, but The Rock’s best co-star is missing (and it’s not Vin Diesel)

New Hobbs movie is coming but The Rocks best co star

Ever since Dwayne Johnson publicly dumped his Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel in 2016, a feud has torn the hit action car series in two. Ex-wrestler The Rock dropped out of the mainline and publicly poked fun at Diesel while he spoke condescendingly about working with Johnson.

A few years and disastrous box office flops later, however, the two muscular stars have seemingly reconciled. In the current Fast & Furious 10, The Rock has a guest appearance (his first appearance in a Vin Diesel film since 2017). And now he’s officially declared the dispute with his co-star over. Not only that: Dwayne Johnson is set to direct a new Fast & Furious movie.

This is known about the new Fast & Furious movie starring Dwayne Johnson

In a social media post, Dwayne Johnson announced the following:

  • He’s directing a new spin-off movie starring his F&F character, Luke Hobbs
  • The film acts as a bridge between the current Fast and Furious 10 and the upcoming Fast and Furious 11, meaning it will be released before the next film in the Vin Diesel franchise
  • Johnson further explains:

Last summer, Vin Diesel and I put the past behind us. We will lead with brotherhood and determination – and always caring about the franchise, the characters and the fans we love.

The film is produced by Johnson and Diesel. Also, longtime action series regular Chris Morgan returns for the new Hobbs film. Morgan’s last stint was Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw (2017), the first spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Where we are at the big question mark in the announcement…

Where is Jason Statham in the new Fast and Furious movie?

Hobbs and Shaw was a buddy movie starring upstanding lawman Hobbs and ruthless cynic Shaw (Statham). In the announcement of the new film, however, Statham is not mentioned at all. He was the icing on the cake for the F&F spin-off, not only in terms of the verbal exchanges with Clean Hobbs, but also in terms of the fist-fighting action.

It’s not yet clear if we’ll see Deckard Shaw in the Fast & Furious spin-off. But as stated a while ago, Statham is the big winner either way of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson’s divorce (and apparent remarriage).

Statham’s career was reinvigorated by F&F 7, he is an integral part of the main series around Dom Toretto’s crew, picks up a spin-off here and there and builds his own blockbuster franchise, a Fast & Furious, on the basis of the furious successes with sharks. He doesn’t really need Dwayne Johnson anymore, but does Johnson know Hobbs is quite a bore without Shaw?

In any case, we’ll keep you up to date on the further development of the Fast and Furious saga (in front of and behind the scenes).
