NCIS breaks golden rule for new series after 20 years

NCIS has long been much more than just a series. The story about the so-called
Naval Criminal Investigative Service
came out 20 years ago from the parent series JAG – On Order of Honor. Since then, a number of spin-offs such as NCIS: Hawaii and NCIS: New Orleans have emerged. Another spin-off will be added in just a few weeks – and this time everything is different.

What’s so special about the new NCIS series?

So far, the Navy CIS spin-offs have been scattered in various metropolitan areas of the USA – often in particularly sunny areas. The latter also applies to the upcoming offshoot. However, NCIS: Sydney is set – as the name suggests – in faraway Australia. This is a first for the long-running crime franchise.

Olivia Swann plays NCIS special agent Michelle Mackey. She is joined by Todd Lasance as Sergeant Jim Dempsey. The duo leads a five-person team made up of various criminal special forces. The focus is on the cooperation between the American NCIS organization and the Australian AFP (Australia Federal Police). Together, the teams fight crime Down Under.

The expanded universe also includes Scorpion. The universe will soon consist of six series.

When does NCIS: Sydney start?

The Australian spin-off was announced in 2022. It will be released in the USA on Launch November 13, 2023. A German release schedule of the eight episodes is still pending. The series will run in this country either on Sat.1 in free TV or on Paramount+.
